DSS and Tim from the Main Street Saints who is also the editor of the wellknown American Upstart fanzine are proud to present the soundtrack of the Kansas City Streetpunk festival 99. Tim is putting up this show every Memorial Day weekend. This one«s filled up to 72 Min. Since all those bands represent the mid west of Oi! (except Beerzone who are from England), the mid west seemsto be very alive and kickin. The Main Street Saints are even joined by a member of now split up Detroits Pist n Broke for the song "Ireland". It is a CD only release! For all who really like the US of Oi!

We are proud to introduce you to a new series of releases exclusive on
DSS. We hope that this series gets the same respect as the DSS-Longshot
tribute series got. We are starting with two new bands and there are many
more to come soon. The Subway Thugs are from Vancouver. They have released
several 7"s on Oink! Records and this is their debut on 12"
vinyl. Their sound can be described as a mixture of the 4 Skins and Slade.
The Butchers are based in Seattle right around the corner from where the
Subway Thugs come from. The bands know each other, in fact they are friends.
The Butchers have no releases out except some cassettes but they are already
a legend. Their frontmant, Stu, the Ayatholla of Street Rock«n«Roll, has
a really extraordinaire stage performance and if you ever get the chance
to see them live - go there, it is real fun. Their music sounds like it«s
77 again, classic punkrock n roll. In the line-up Carl from the mighty
Templars.

When "Strength thru OI!" was released back in the 80s nobody could know that this would become one of the records leading to a totally different music genre known today as streetrock or Oi!. When Gary Bushell collected those tracks for Decca he was part of a up and coming music scene which brought new blood into the stagnating punk scene of Britain in the 80s. Bands like the 4 Skins, The Strike, Last Resort or Cock Sparrer all had a workingclass background and had nothing in common with the, at that time, trendy punk scene. Their music was made for the people on the street. They combined fast, hard driven music with singalong lyrics and unlike to the hundreds of punk bands, people still understood what they were singing. After Decca deleted the record and banned it from the British market it became a high collectible item. We present here the officical license reissue availabel on CD and LP. If you were not around in the 80s check out what you have missed, because the contents of songs could also have been written today. If you own the rare original keep it on the shelf and our CD version for an affordable price. Includes several at that time popular street poems.

I was never a friend of label compilations. Many of them only combined weak tracks of records which nobody likes and there were even labels out there who put out a so called label compilation after a handful of releases. I was in touch with the editor of the popular german streetpunk magazine Moloko Plus who started to put out a CD with every issue. I told him that I sometimes want to do a label comp. but I want to give it away with a zine plus a I need someone who is going to choose the tracks. Since his knowledge of good streetpunk is wellknown I asked him to choose the tracks for the compilation. As you can see or hear later on, he made his job perfect and filled up the small plastic piece to its limit. It combines some of the best tracks we put out during our 45 releases so far. It is avaliable as the official Moloko Plus CD with a different cover and as a mid-price release with this cover here. The booklet has 6 pages in full color with a story about how it all started, a complete listing of all releases, pictures of all covers and much more.
Ich bin nicht unbedingt ein Freund von Label Sampler, denn zu viele Label bringen bereits nach einer Handvoll VOEs den ersten Label Sampler raus und packen meisten auch nicht die besten Sachen drauf. Ich habe mal mit dem Herausgeber des Moloko Plus darueber gesprochen, da§ ich einen Label Sampler machen moechte, diesen aber einem fanzine beilegen moechte und au§erdem suchte ich jemanden der die Tracks zusammenstellt. Da der Torsten als exzellenter Kenner des Streetrock bekannt ist, hat er dankenswerter Weise diese Aufgabe uebernommen und den kleinen Silberling bis zum Rand mit sehr guten Nummern angefllt. Die CD gibt s als offizielle Beilage zum Moloko Plus (mit anderem Cover) und mit diesem Cover hier als Mid-Price CD. Das Booklet ist 6 Seiten lang und 4-farbig, darin erfhrt man etwas ber den Beginn von DSS Records, findet eine gesamte Discografie sowie alle Covers.

The idea was to give younger bands an opportunity to put out their songs on a CD and distribute this CD nation wide. When this compilation was released in the beginning of 1997 none of the bands had a longplayer out. Some bands like Loikaemie, Volxsturm, Punkroiber, in fact all of them are quite well known today. The second idea was to use a provocative slogan, so some people will see that it«s not always as it looks like. It should be just another example to show people that punkrock and Oi! has nothing to do with politics. When Loikaemie sing in their song "Blood & Honour" -" ... use your brain and not your fists, because fascism sucks .." it should be all clear. It«s a good compilation of up and coming Oi! bands from Germany.

DSS joined forces with Spain s numero uno in streetstyle Bronco Bullfrog Records. Skanky Mark has provided the tracks and he did a great job on that. We filled this CD up to the limit with traditional to Two Tone ska. No 3rd wave or other experiments here. Everybody who likes the sound of the 80s will hear that those bands also exist in the 90s. These bands are maybe not MTV compatible, but if you want really cool danceable music than your are 100% right with this. The bands come from all around the world from Italy to Scotland and from the USA to New Zealand. There are far too many ska compilations around with far too many weak/slow tracks, so do not make a mistake and miss out this compilation.
